Goliath – more than just digital TV


I'm interested in collecting as much -prefer official- info about this new Dream Multimedia device. Especially technical specifications, like video output type, audio output type.

Also when i see the new development of for example cable company settop boxes, like here in The Netherlands the "UPC Horizon", then i discover that it supports lots of newer techniques to limit user experience. I mean things like CI+ (youtube link) and HD+ (youtube link) . I really hope Dream Multimedia doesn't start with those user limitations.

So who knows more sources about the Dreambox Goliath project? I'm so curious. 8o
I thought in this period of the year the Goliath came to the stores.

Dream revolutionises the consumption of digital media

Dream Multimedia, the leading provider of Linux-based set-top boxes, will provide visitors to the Anga Cable show, which takes place from the 12th to the 14th of June 2012 with a glimpse into the future of digital media. Dream will be presenting its Goliath project at its stand, E34 in hall 10.2.

Goliath is a totally new hardware and software product, combining all the features of the successful Dreambox series, and indeed will go beyond that. The project will set new standards in terms of speed and innovation, and will revolutionise the manner in which media contents are consumed. Goliath is currently still at the development stage, and it can thus not yet be stated precisely when the product will be available in the trade.

However, Dream will provide a glimpse of the future of digital media at the Anga Cable show. Goliath will be introduced for the first time in a video. In addition, visitors to the Dream Multimedia stand at the show can get an actual feel for this innovative hardware.

the shape of Goliath. Right from the start, Dream Multimedia has focussed on the convergence of television and the Internet.

I read an article about new development that will arrive in a few years(like 2015).
So If you really want to create a mega settopbox with the name Goliath, then my question is, does it support these new developments:

-New 3D standard : Advanced Stereo 3D (no more 2x screen split left and right on HD 1080p, but full resolution in 4k/8k without glasses) 8o
-New DVB-s standard: DVB-S3 (very important, they say it'll start in 2015) :thumbup:
-New video codec for 4k & 8k : h265 HEVC (high efficiency video coding) used by DVB-S3 for the 4k resolution TV channels :thumbsup:

I really think this is a minimum to added to the future Goliath settopbox/mediacenter/computer..
At sat position 10.0 E 11304H there are already 4 Ultra HD channels testing with 4K.

announced the development of innovative technology modulating - NS3,
designed to optimize the resources of satellite transponders earlier

Compared to currently broadcasting standards DVB-S and DVB-S2, the new

channels in 20-55% of the transponder with a bandwidth of 36 MHz and 78%
at 72 MHz transponders, providing high-speed data transfer up to 358
Mbit / s.

Technicians NovelSat reported completion of the pre-testing of the new
standard with power satellites Eutelsat W3A , AsiaSat 5, Amos-3, as well
as some of the spacecraft constellation Intelsat.

Test results confirmed that the new standard NS3 far exceeded the
capacity DVB-S2, which is now considered to be the best solution in the
field of satellite broadcasting. NS3 also a huge plus is that it is
fully compatible with previous standards DVB-S and DVB-S2, enabling
operators to perform a smooth transition to the new technology.

NS3 is also able to provide the following benefits:

transfer of a large number of SD-, HD-and 3D-channels, and as data
transmission through the communication line and transponders that are
identical to today's energy balance.

Saving reception quality at lower SNR (signal / noise ratio), which, in
turn, allows the use of a receiving antenna with a smaller diameter.

Expansion of satellite coverage.

According to preliminary information, the completion of a cycle of
testing involving 32 broadcasters and teleports located in Europe and
the U.S.,

DVB-S-3 is now in use on several satellites in Europe,America's &
Asia as stated in the reports your normal HD receiver will be able to
receive these new broadcasts but not the 16APSK & 32APSK versions
for these you will need a professional receiver until someone
incorporates all the new satellite transmission types in a enthusiasts
receiver to find all the transmissions now in general use by SNG's.
Mitsubishi, Broadcom, Cyberlink, Ericsson en Fraunhofer HHI already implemented h265 in their hardware. So why not DMM Goliath? Really It seems logical that they start with DVB-S3 in 2015. (over 2 years already)
I think DReamMultimedia can make a big step forward to the other Enigma2 receiver builders and clones by supporting DVB-S3 (16APSK & 32APSK included) and h265.

Link test compares 8PSK DVB-S2 with 16APSK + Clean Channel Technology*

July 20, 2012 – Jacksonville, Florida – Adtec co-hosted a series of down link tests using low symbol rates (0.5, 1, 3 and 5 mega-symbols). The purpose was to evaluate 16APSK modulation with Newtec Clean Channel Technology* for use by lower cost SDTV and HDTV sports feeds. Results prove that 16APSK with enhancements (i.e., an emerging DVB-S3 standard) can be suitable for operators who are using 8PSK DVB-S2 feeds today. The improvements in spectral efficiency and power utilization from an emerging DVB-S3 standard promise to make higher order modulation (16 to 64APSK) available to a wider range of satellite users. Link tests probe 32apsk with Clean Channel*

April 26, 2012 – Jacksonville, Florida – Adtec co-hosted a pan North American down link test at 32APSK on 36 MHz. Space segment was provided courtesy of SM2 Sports. Link results were collected from eight downlink sites located throughout the continental US and Canada. A portion of the tests employed Newtec Clean Channel technology to achieve a 5% rolloff. Receivers were 100% DVB-S2 compliant models (Adtec RD60). Results of tests showed a modest gain in performance without interference on adjacent carriers. Future tests to be conducted May 26 and 27 will test Clean Channel technology on the receivers.
