Israeli F-16 Shot Down Over Syria

An Israeli F-16 fighter jet was shot down Saturday morning in Northern Israel near Syria by what's believed to have been Syrian anti-aircraft fire. Both pilots were injured, one seriously. The attack happened after Israeli forces apparently shot down an Iranian drone which it believed had illegally entered Israeli air space.

The Syrian military says its air defense force has shot down Israeli warplanes after they targeted Syrian army positions.
The Israeli military has confirmed the downing of one of its F-16 fighter jets, saying the pilots were ejected unharmed. Israeli jets had entered Syria after violating the Lebanese airspace. Damascus says more than one Israeli jets were hit by the Syrian anti-aircraft fire. The Syrian army also confirmed that Israeli warplanes targeted a military site near the capital Damascus. There has been no report of damage or casualties. The developments come after Tel Aviv alleged that an Iranian-made drone entered the occupied Golan Heights which it says was intercepted.

Syrian air defense system shot down Israeli Jet in Syria

An Israeli F-16 fighter jet crashed after Syria responded with anti-aircraft fire to an Israeli operation in its territory. Syria says its military base came under Israeli fire, and it hit multiple aircraft in response.
“Massive Syrian Anti-Air fire, one F16 crashed in Israel, pilots safe,” IDF spokesman Jonathan Conricus said on Twitter.

The incident took place after the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) intercepted an Iranian UAV, which crossed from the territory of Syria into Israel. In response, the Israeli military attacked Iranian positions in Syria. The operation triggered anti-aircraft fire by Syrian forces.
The Israeli “aggression” targeted an army base in the central region of Syria, Sana reported, citing a military official, who also said that Syrian air defenses struck more than one jet. The Israeli military denied that:“They all returned safely, except for one that crashed in Israel,” Conricus said.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is currently holding security consultations and approving the necessary actions in real time following the incidents, official Israeli sources told Haaretz.
IDF spokesman Ronen Manelis earlier said: “We identified an Iranian drone UAV which took off from Syrian territory. The drone was identified by I A F systems and was downed by an I A F helicopter. The Iranian drone fell in our territory and is in our possession.” He described Israeli operation in Syria as “a surgical action deep in Syria.”
Red alert sirens were heard in multiple areas across northern Israel, initially in the town of Beit Shee’an and later in the surrounding areas and Golan Heights. Local residents told Haaretz that they heard many blasts and reported heavy aerial activity in the area near the Jordanian and Syrian borders.
Syria has repeatedly protested Israeli attacks on targets inside Syria. Earlier this week, Israeli warplanes attacked military targets near Damascus from Lebanese airspace, with the Syrian Army claiming it destroyed most of the Israeli rockets. In January, Israel launched three attacks on military targets in Syria, using jets and ground-to-ground missiles. Back then, Damascus claimed that it shot down one Israeli jet and one missile.

The Syrian Army says its forces have shot down two Israeli aircraft over Golan Heights.
The Syrian Air Defense shot down an Israeli warplane in southwest of the town of Quneitra in the hourly hours of Tuesday after it pounded military’s positions in the area. An Israeli reconnaissance drone was also hit later in west of the town of Sa’asa. The Israeli military has denied that any of its aircraft was downed. It says two missiles that were fired at its warplane missed their target. Israel earlier confirmed that its warplanes flew over the Syrian airspace in response to a mortar fired from Syria.

Syrian air defense units targeted the modern Israeli F16 fighter jet by a S-200 missile defense system designed in soviet era in the 1960s.The Israeli Air Force's F16 is a forth generation fighter jet equipped with modern electronic system.
Field sources in Damascus province said on Saturday that the Syrian Army's air defense units confronted the third wave of Israeli air raids in the Western part of Damascus province.

The sources said that air defense units repelled the third round of Israeli airstrikes on army positions in al-Dimas region, tracking and destroying the Israeli air-to-surface missile before hitting the target on the ground.
Israeli media reported that Tel Aviv called on Washington and Moscow to meddle and take control over the situation.

The Syria 's state-run SANA said that a situation of fear and anxiety covered the Northern part of occupied Palestine.

SANA reported on Saturday that the Syrian air defense units confronted the second raid of Israeli fighter jets in Damascus province airspace.

The news agency further quoted a military source as saying that the air defense units repelled the Israeli jet's fresh attack on army positions in the Southern part of the country.

Israel’s Channel 2 also reported that the Ben Gurion Airport near Tel Aviv had temporarily halted air traffic.

The Syrian military had hit at least one Israeli F-16 aircraft that attacked positions inside Syrian territory, sending it down in flames and smoke.
Over the past years, Israel has frequently attacked targets in Syria , often claiming that it hit positions or convoys belonging to Iran. This is while Iran has no military presence in Syrian territory, only offering advisory military assistance to the Syrian government fighting an all-out foreign-sponsored militancy.

Damascus stressed on Thursday that the repeated Israeli attacks on Syria are a continuation of Israel’s aggressive approach represented by supporting terrorist groups to prolong the crisis in Syria and to raise the morale of the terrorists.
The government of the Syrian Arab Republic reiterates its warning to Israel on the serious repercussions of its attacks on Syria , its continued support for armed terrorist organizations, and its continued occupation of the Arab territories, including the occupied Syrian Golan, and it holds Israel fully responsible for that,” it said.
It further went on to condemn the Tel Aviv regime's latest attack in which Israeli aircraft launched missiles from the Lebanese airspace on an area in Damascus countryside.
the attack coincides with "the launching of more than 1,000 rockets and mortar rounds during the past few days on neighborhoods, suburbs, diplomatic missions, service facilities, and churches in Damascus and other cities, where dozens of civilians were killed and hundreds others were wounded, most of them women and children.
