10 year wait over for Europa 7
After a ten-year wait, Italy’s Ministry of Economic Development and Communications has awarded Europa 7 the necessary frequency to start broadcasting.
Europa 7 has received the licence for VHF channel 8, enabling it to broadcast nationwide in analogue or digital. According to the Ministry, the TV channel should commence broadcasts starting from July 1, 2009 and not later than June 30, 2011.
Although it obtained a TV concession in 1998, the broadcaster founded and owned by Francesco Di Stefano never went on air because the necessary frequencies were always used by Rete 4, a TV channel belonging to Silvio Berlusconi’s media group Mediaset.
The measure follows the recent publication of the new National Frequency Allocation Plan, which includes the obligation of implementing the decisions reached at the ITU Conference in Geneva in June 2006, not later than 30 June 2009.
