ZF reports that the company, which operates the country’s most successful satellite platform Digi TV, has introduced a new offer providing the service free of charge (and with free installation) for a period of three months. Subscribers are also being given the option of buying or renting reception equipment, with those who opt for the former required to pay a RON70 (€17) activation fee.
The move by RCS/RDS is seen as a direct response to Romtelecom, whose DTH service Dolce is being offered free of charge for six months on contracts of 29 months.
Digi TV ended 2009 with 1.1 million subscribers, while Dolce, the second placed DTH platform in Romania, had nearly 900,000.
