k2 (South Korea)
The K2 Black Panther main battle tank evolved from the XK2 programme. This next-generation MBT was developed in South Korea using indigenous technology only. Its development began in 1995. First prototype was revealed in 2007. Since then this tank was trialed and evaluated. Production contract for the first 100 K2 tanks was signed in 2014. South Korean Army has a requirement for around 300 of these new tanks. Eventually the K2 Black Panther will replace the older K1 main battle tanks

Merkava Mk 4 (Israel)
The Merkava Mk.4 Main Battle Tank (MBT) entered service with Israel Defense Forces in 2004. It is a further development of the Merkava Mk.3. A total of 360 of these tanks have already been built and another 300 have been ordered by Israeli Defense Forces. For a long time these tanks were not available for export, though some of the tank's systems and components were offered for the export customers. leopard 2 (Germany)
Despite being a good design, the Leopard 1 was already dated when it entered service in comparison to its nemesis, the Russian T-62 in term’s of firepower and armoured protection. Rheinmetall had been developing a new 120mm smoothbore main gun (now known as the L44) during the 1960’s, whilst at the same time the indigenous development of a replacement for the Leopard 1 had ended in favour of the joint US project called the MBT-70. Germany eventually pulled out of the project due to high costs and conflicts of design, but by this stage the Russian T-72 which had increased levels of protection and firepower compared to the T-62 was due to enter production.
