[SatNews] Newtec presented its results today in Moscow at the SATRUS-2010 show of its landmark trials of DVB-S2 Multistream with major Russian satellite operators including the Russian Satellite Communications Company (RSCC). The use of Newtec's DVB-S2 Multistream has the potential to improve capacity levels significantly for television transmission across the country. Along with DVB-S2, Newtec presented its FlexACM®, NoDE, Equalink and 4CPM technologies at SATRUS-2010.
Russia relies almost exclusively on satellite transmission for television, and the drive to introduce Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) across the country over the next few years is creating enormous demand and satellite capacity issues. Newtec, working with RSCC, used its Horizon Multistream solution to send multiple transport streams over a single satellite carrier. This included three bouquets of multiple television channels transmitted through one carrier instead of the traditional multiple carrier solution — enabling major operational savings combined with optimal transmission quality.
Serge Van Herck, Newtec's CEONewtec states they are the first company to implement fully Multistream capabilities into its product range and now has a proven track record through multiple deployments worldwide. Unlike using traditional DVB multiplexers, Newtec's unique DVB-S2 Multistream implementation does not modify the original transport streams and maintains the integrity of the original content. This makes it particularly suited for mobile and terrestrial TV networks and gives broadcasters a fully transparent and efficient way to carry the content over satellite towards the transmitter towers. The unique combination of Multistream with Newtec's NoDE and Equalink solutions, makes this the most robust and efficient solution in the industry.
In addition to the important capacity savings as proved in the RSCC trials, Newtec Horizon Multistream technology provides the lowest recurring operational costs, as well as a lower startup investment spending. Benefits also include the lowest number of separate devices both in the head-end as in the tower and avoids the re-multiplexing at the towers.
